The Restenford Journals #10 (13 MAY 2024)

So the original plan of alternating around games on Monday for a variety of players in a pair of games set in the same campaign world has kind of fallen through. But that is OK and we do adapt. A recurring weekly game for Restenford Journals has triumphed in a ttrpg game of natural selection. I have a few days in the week I could possibly shoehorn a later evening game into but I am unsure if I will do so t this time but for now lets go over the further exploits of the Jonkheers of Falcon's Rest .     Having returned to Falcon's Rest the previous session the Jonkheers were planning on ridding the lower crypts of the foul undead encountered previously and exploring the Pit. Yalta the Priest from Restenford had agreed to journey to their Keep as they were in need of a holy man to deal with the foul undead. This seems to be a temporary position for Yalta as he is Lady Fairwind 's personal advisor and the only face of the Church of Ygg in Restenford at this time. Havin

Dwarf OSE+ Dark Citadel Session #21 (9 MAY 2024)

I forgot to recap the session before this so I will recap both I guess which will make this very long. But it is what it is and I am becoming quite forgetful as of late. And this will be sketchy as I do not remember the session before this one as clearly and I could summarize it but not sure if I would get many of the encounters accurately.     Returning to possibly clear out of the area where they had encountered the Lagomorphs and allied tentatively with the Elfin Raiders under Tanila Glynra. Returning they come upon the entry to the dungeon area claimed by the Elfin forces and the Orcs vanquished. Inquiring as to what happened since their last meeting I have them roll a Reaction Roll and it is bad, like a 5 Bad so the Elfin Warriors are drinking in the Great Hall where they had fought the Giants Spider. All are quite drunk and take the inquiries and tone of The Brotherhood of Expendable Strangers as Insults and words are exchanged. The Elfin Warriors blame the Dwarf group for

The Restenford Journals #9 (6 MAY 2024)

Oh now we pick up where we left off previously with our fine fresh fellows looking for adventure on the Isle of Lenard. The PCs had successfully dealt with the Bandits of Falcon's Rest and having suffered grievous wounds desired to rest a few days while the recently freed slaves of the Bandits recuperated. Several of the 0-level villagers; 6 in total, had decided to hire on as servants to their courageous liberators. Offering up prayers to Tritherion they bent the knee and assumed the duties of Man-at-Arms as well as household staff. The scruffy dwarf prisoner;  Garfun Trollfury , having collected several daggers from the fallen bandits had agreed to accompany them to Llergton to return the Spice Merchant's Daughter as well as several minor officials of the town to safety. The Elf  Afamrail Fayra accompanies them as well to Llergton . But on the third day of rest a panicked and obviously worried servant comes running down from the roof of Falcon's Rest and announces m

Stone-Hell on the Borderlands Session #24 (29 APRIL 2024)

SO it took awhile f or me to get back to writing this recap up and I may be a bit fuzzy and it will more than likely be short. We had three players instead of four and they had a high roll for possible retainers so none were available. There is some minor stuff in Kendell Keep were taken care of and then they head straight back to Stone-Hell .    The journey there is uneventful and zero encounters so they drop off their donkeys AND their war dogs with the Dwarf Cohort that protect Snorri Broadshoulders . There is some minor exploration but they decide to attempt to open the Danse Macabre Stone Doors , opening it with fair ease after reminding me that they had indeed leveled since failing their Open Door s from a pervious section. I had nudged that opening it was difficult and had failed last time. They succeed in opening the doors and are greeted by the Smell of Old Death the cold air of the tomb and a hellish red glow beyond. Seeing a large number of Fire Beetles they distract t

The Restenford Journals #8 (22 APRIL 2024)

Since we left last session on a Cliffhanger we picked up right where we left off and of course we are missing a PC from that session as well as picking up the PC who missed last session ;). Now of course this is the argument for stopping play in the dungeon and always returning to town but that also prevent you from having a Cliffhanger episode that PCs can mull over for a week before playing again. I'm find with either and it wad not much of an actual Cliffhanger either but they had finished with the general body of Bandits and were almost of out of resources, They are pressing on because they know if they fall back and rest the Main Villain will escape, plain and simply. All of your minions are dead and if you value your skin you would skedaddle as well. The Magic-User Davon is the primary voice of lets get out so I can rememorized spells and the Ranger Tushaub and Elf Eldrin are pushing forward. I allow the PC character not present to head down tot he Hobgoblin Caves wh

Dwarf OSE+ Dark Citadel Session #20 (APRIL 2024)

SO, after a long hiatus partially due to local severe weather and scheduling conflicts we finally returned to the OSE Advanced Dwarf themed exploration of the Dark Citadel. Still had a missing PC this week but it is Baseball season for the kid and this is gonna happen. We dived right in and Ye' Brotherhood of Expendable Strangers sought to recruit more Retainers to no avail although a group of Thaneduhr Dwarf Pilgrims arrived at the Restored Temple of Thaneduhr and began restoring it to it's former glory. These NPC can in the future however be recruited by the PCs as Followers when Cleric attain Name Level. I will take time today or morrow and roll up some of these as Retainer Options to be recruited but the miserly hiring habits of the PCs results in a consistent -2 or more to recruiting efforts.    A minimal recap of the previous session and we decide only 6 days since the week travel time of the precious session has passed. I do not follow 1:1 time much at all preferr

The Restenford Journals #7 (15 APRIL 2024)

Ok, so we picked up right where we left off last time except with a different player and missing a player. So, I had to plug and play a reason why. If you disregard allot of logical thinking and remember "Hey, this is a fantasy game" its no big deal. If you are simulationist you kinda grind your teeth for a few minutes. We came up with the Thief got separated after getting a late start from the Stone House in the Xerbal Mountains which btw I really need to work on  bit more.    Opting to rest an evening and risk detection by the Falcon's Rest Bandits above the PCs keep watch and get lucky. I roll for the escaped Hobgoblin females morale and it succeeds but I roll a Wandering Monster Check for them and fate is cruel. A simple percental check to see if the Bandits above come visit the Hobgoblin Cave results in nope so our stalwart adventurers get a decent nights sleep and the single Hit Point that gives those who had any wounds. They move the boulder blocking the rest
