Dwarf OSE+ Dark Citadel Session #30 (25 SEPTEMBER 2024)

Cliffhangers, it seems I addicted to leaving my game on a cliffhanger. We picked up this session missing a PC who was stuck at work which made the Cliffhanger problematic and is why it is discouraged by allot of DMs out. We still say DM right ? Or is it fashionable to say Gamemaster, Judge or what-not. instead of Dungeonmaster, Pfft anyway. We had to NPC his character at least for this encounter.     It was the revealed group of Dopplegangers and with Geoff still unable to act fully after being revived during their, hold a minute. That was two sessions ago and he would have been fully capable of acting. But did not under a false assumption, hmmm We will just say that he was steering the ship and leaving the helm would have resulted in a disastrous wreck on the Dark River . Oddly everyone else was thinking the same thing ....     We had a late start as well so we dived into this battle on the deck of the unfolded floating Folding Boat. This dragged out,...

Highfell Journals Session #1 (24 SEPTEMBER 2024)

Leaving games on a cliffhanger usually means pausing play in the dungeon/adventure. I do this allot and actually prefer not to but I work with a 2 and a half hour gaming window which lends itself to doing just  that. This can cause problems with the next session if there is a player missing but we are flexible. We pick up after the Surprise Round by a group of tipsy goblins.     Initiative is not kind to the party and they lose Initiative several times. The party is stretched out in the 5' wide hallway with Wolf Crest & Bristerhahn searching a bed room. The Men-at-Arms Aulbert & Hurbert are at the font with Galandar in the hall in front of the open door observing the Elf & Human Fighter search, well the Fighter is preening in front of a mirror but says he is searching. The Monk Alaric stands watch at the rear of the party at the top of the stairs to the bottom floor. The goblins wound Aulbert and he is slain by a dart tot he back by his em...

Highfell Journals (16 SEPTEMBER 2024)

This is the first recap of a new Dragonslayer RPG Campaign I am running on ROll20, using Discord for Voice. We started with a basic session zero but since everyone had characters ready we went over some optional rules and would be playing as close to RAW as possible for the campaign. Rulings would of course be made during course of play. I used my Heroic Stat Roll Method of 2d6+6 for Stats and we being campaign play with  Bristerhahn Yiaggisdir a Chaotic Neutral Human Fighter, Galandar a Neutral Good Elfin Magic-User who employs Hurbert & Aulbert Neutral Human Men-at-arms,  Alaric Windrider a Lawful Neutral Monk of Acanatryl, and  Wolf Crest ( Thy-Thuökan ) a Lawful Neutral Elfin Fighter/Thief. So a well rounded party of four and we will be adding another two players over the next month.     We begin as many adventures do sitting in a tavern, the Inn of the Wanton Wench to be exact in the remote town of Thatchum in the Northern Rea...

Dwarf OSE+ Dark Citadel Session #29 (11 SEPTEMBER 2024)

The gap in between making this recap and when I should have actually done it is long. Been a bit busy with the family role of grandfather though lately. I'll try not to butcher my memory of the session but it was pretty tame honestly. We picked up as the Brotherhood of Expendable Strangers were leaving the great domed dwarven air machinery region. I roll a few Wandering Monster Checks and the Brotherhood makes it to the Dwarf Citadel with ease. There is a division of XP from the previous session and it is brought up that the XP from the Trapper encounter may not have been divided, I am unsure but err on the side of the Players and we divide XP resulting in the leveling of a few PCs so the down time at the small fortress is extended. Geoff needs a few days to recover from being reduced to 0 hit points as well. The Brotherhood then enter into an in game debate on where to go to next. This does indeed take up a bit of our playing time as there is debate on allowing the Pr...

The Restenford Journals #21 ( 9 SEPTEMBER 2024)

Black Jack or Bust, Bust     Well we picked up after the route from the Hulker underneath the Ruins of Bone Hill and they fell back to their tower to rest up. I am surprised that before falling back that Davon did not cast  Fireball  at the sleeping stirges in the Ruined North West Tower. They rested and decided to hit the Tower labeled as The Tower of the Spiders in Telvar's Journal.     Approaching the ruined tower they noted the prevalence of webs in the windows and observing for possible pitfalls and traps near the entrance they saw many cocooned bodies along the walls. That tunnels between  the webbing allowed egress either upwards or downwards in the tower. Volcifer said he saw something large crawl over the wall and up the side of the tower but was unsure what it was but thought it might be a very large spider. They spend roughly 2 turns discussing their plans and waiting for something to emerge from the webs or comedown...

Dwarf OSE+ Dark Citadel Session #28 (4 SEPTEMBER 2024)

Another recap of our doughty Brotherhood of Expendable Stranger s. Picking up in the control room of the ruins of the Great Dark Citadel Moulin A Vent the PCs begin by searching for information or manuals. They find an empty scroll rack thick with dust. Ryxxor begins messing with the most prominent lever which has a series of channels to be tested which results in the grinding of gears, shaking of the control panel and distant rattling of chains. HE does this for 4 attempts before quitting and the rest of the party debates on their next course of action after every member searches the Control Room repeatedly.     Gremmin suggest searching the far side of the complex where a single door was located to hopefully find lost bits of lore. Everyone eventually agrees and I get the feeling this is going to be a slow session. They over to the shore and close the Secret Door behind them before unfolding the Folding Boat to ford the canal in the great Domed chamber...

The Restenford Journals #20 ( 3 SEPTEMBER 2024)

Well, we got an on time start that was marred by technical issues from the get go. Internet for one of our players was being sketch at best total crap for the average. We tried to deal with it the best we could and spent a fair amount of time talking politics while waiting or him to reestablish connection. This is the biggest down side of a VTT imo.     We picked up with the Jonkheers having returned to Telvar's Tower their foothold in the Ruins of Bone Hill and they spent two days resting in its confines. Deciding that Locinda' s skills might be able to overcome a lock Eldrin failed to unlock in a previous session they returned to the Locked Door near the slain Manticore's Lair. The sound of falling water is heard from the Manticore's Lair as it is raining outside and it is falling through the open hole in the ceiling to the floor of the chamber beyond. She is successful and they discover an old store room with barrels lining the walls covered in mold...
