Dwarf OSE+ Dark Citadel Session #22 (23 MAY 2024)

We picked up right where we left off last week so this made 3 sessions in the Lair of the Death Fist Orcs. Which having just discovered the hidden Key Hole at the end of the previous session they were wanting to find the Treasure of the Death Fist but decided to search the set of stairs noticed earlier but bypassed. The Brotherhood of Expendable Strangers descend and upon the landing discover the residence of the preciously slain Witchy Doctor Urul whose body still laid upon the bridge.

Exploring it they find a Spell book concealed beneath a loose stone and not much else. Evidently the Witchy Doctor carried all of his treasure upon his person. Wanting to maximize what little duration they have on the Potion of True Sight they descend to the final landing on these steep stairs and find yet another stout dwarven made door. Well, they are in ancient Dwarf ruins so no surprise there really.

Beyond it a corridor leads to a sandy beach where many mooring poles are empty and but a single boat remains. Around the curving section of corridor chanting can be heard nearby which is quite loud. They approach and discover a grisly Temple. A large altar made of bone has an Elf with its ribcage spread, its heart missing and many small items lay upon the various clay bowls. This immediately makes several of the PCs ready to fight and as I go through a Declaration Phase many charge forward and then are separated from the rest of the Party by a pair of Death Fist who were in the corner flanking the door observing the ritual. The Death Fist Shaman However is disrupted and Blinded in the first round so it is just a short melee.

While still under the fading effects of  True Sight Gremmin notes that the Altar & Eye Mural Radiate STRONG Magic & Evil. All during the battle every PC felt the Gaze of the Mural upon them no matter where they were in the room or Hall. As the bodies are being looted the FTR/CLC Namman approaches the Altar and pours a Vial of Holy Water upon it, the ground quakes and the Eye Mural begins to Bleed profusely. Several move tot he hall while Namman pours another Vial of Holy Water upon the Altar which begins to dissolves into the floor and the eye fades as it bleeds away. The room is searched and then the PCs fall back to the Keyhole and insert the Emerald Key, a deep grinding can be heard and after concealing the Key Hole again they rush up to the Treasure Room of the Death Fist and find it open.

Taking a rest and  then allowing Gremmin to inspect the various chests for Traps they spend a few hours while a plethora of Dwarf Items are recovered including magical Gauntlets and War Hammer bearing the sigils of Thaneduhr. They retire back to Axios Landing after resealing the treasury room's Dwarf Iron Door. The rest of this session was spent dividing treasure or which there was allot. After a minor error in treasure split I allowed the terms of the Retainers to change to the minimum Daily rate of 5 SP but all with a Full Share of Treasure. The Retainers then spent allot of their new found fortune at Ergol's Landing and the defeat of the remnants of the last known Death Fist spreads. After making a few rolls and asking if any of the FTR classes in the party were clearing their conquered sections of the Dungeon their Strongholds I rolled for attracting Followers.

OSE does not list how many or when a FTR attracts followers outside of when they build or claim a Stronghold so I dipped back into AD&D and made them roll Roll. A grand total of 180 Dwarf FTR plus 3rd Level Captains/Lieutenants are coming to these banners now. These are spread out over Axios Landing, The Reclaimed Temple of Thaneduhr & the former Death Fist Lair. I have not received a definite amount of time that is going to pass before The Brotherhood of Expendable Strangers venture back further into the depths but now they have allot of extra hands to protect their holdings or project power. Possible battle system usage in the depths, who knows we will see.

A particularly powerful Ring was reclaimed from the Death Fist as well. Boosting a Dwarf's natural abilities and extending their Dark Vision/Infravision. Some powerful magical weapons claimed from eh Chieftain as well. All in All it was a big boost to the groups power and reputation so we will see how they wield it. Foolishly, Ruthlessly or Cautiously ...

Git your gaming on Y'all ....
